About Midori Furze

I am a Japanese-born, Sydney-based multidisciplinary artist and I am an active participant in the local art community. As well as exhibiting my works in a number of group and solo exhibitions, I often run origami workshops and community origami projects.

Endless possibilities

Many different Origami Boxes are available

Origami Box

Responded to the request for the origami box workshop.
I have been searching for the origami boxes which are something easy and quick but look impressive…
There are so many different origami boxes I can teach for the beginners.
I think these boxes in the image (Photographed by Midori) are very cool! (and surprisingly steady and strong.)

Refreshing my memory is also fun and makes me very excited!

Would you like to fold them with me?!

Rain on a koi pond

Raindrops on a koi pond

I like the rain.
I like watching the koi pond in the rain.
the rain falls on the pond and makes ripples.
The fish look like they are excited to feel the raindrops…

Each koi fish was folded with a square sheet of paper, no scissors.

Exhibition is cancelled

Exhibition has cancelled due to Covid outbreak

New Moon & Reborn

I am one of the artists who were excited to do the exhibition tomorrow, however, we are disappointed as it has been cancelled due to the Covid outbreak in our area.

Every work has been completed. I prepared some information sheets, price tags and cards… I was ready!
Now a little sadness creeping into my mind. I can’t show and sell my latest works at the exhibition.

Let’s hope that we will celebrate it with the families and friends together, we only have 7 days to Christmas…

Fundraising for WIRES

Regeneration after the bushfires

Regenetaion 1-3
I am participating in the local art project and created 3 artworks.
The project has two keynotes. It is a fundraising project for WIRES. We had very bad bushfire season last time so we’d like to donate all the money raised from the project. Each panel will be sold for $20 each.
The panels have already the outline of the leaf on it and the artists have to use the shape.
So here it is. I’d like to tell you how I approach this project to create my work.
First of all, I thought about the theme, bushfires. I painted the burnt leaves in black with holes. Then I drew the red strings.  I like the story of the red string and I often paint them on my work. It is known as a romantic story but I also believe we are all connected.
I added some new green leaves on the red strings and I decided the titles, “Regeneration”
Regeneration 1,2 & 3
25.5×25.5cm each
Acrylic on cotton panels
$20 each
All money raised will be donated to WIRES.

Featured on the Consulate-General of Japan, Sydney’s website

I am featured on the Japanee Cultural Directory

Midori Furze — contemporary artist

The Consulate-General of Japan, Sydney released a cultural dictionary of the artists on their website in September 2020.
https://www.sydney.au.emb-japan.go.jp/itpr_en/culture_directory.html?fbclid=IwAR2U4M5ckfXCzYHNUUqe68loPO_Fxpmva4FmZRKSAkRSD4X8KQ8psL9LYUQ
They told me that I was chosen to be one of them because I have received the award in 2016, I am so delighted to be in it.

In 2016, I received a Consul-General’s Commendation award for my work towards origami.
I have been working very hard but it was a surprise that the government recognised me.
I’m still doing my best and enjoying the origami.

Thank you very much, everyone! I couldn’t do without your support.
