Exhibition in Japan

Group Exhibition in Japan has opened and it looks great!

Invite pont des Arts Japan

The Japanese professional painters’ group exhibition  “Pont des Arts Japan” at the Aichi Prefecture Art Gallery in Nagoya, Japan has opened.
It is horner to be a part of their 30th-anniversary exhibition.

Big thanks to the widely known artist & founder, Mr. Soshin Okumura, who invited me and helped me to frame my work in Japan.

Soshin Okumura shows his solo exhibitions regularly at Mitsukoshi, Takashimaya and more. He is my favourite artist and he still paints every day.
The exhibition looks great! Congratulations to all the fellow artists!

Sitter for Portia Geach Memorial Award

Portrait of Me at the Prestigious Portia Geach Memorial Award

Portrait of Midori Furze
Huge congratulations to, Stephanie Galloway Brown.
Stephanie was selected as a finalist in the 2023 prestigious Portia Geach Memorial Award with the portrait me, titled “The Paper Crane”.
This incredible exhibition will be held at the @shervingallery Sydney from 3rd November until 17th December 2023.
Stephanie wrote: Midori Furze is a Sydney-based multidisciplinary artist. Born in Japan, her early years were immersed in the traditions of Japanese culture. She draws Sumi-ink drawings on Japanese paper but Midori is known mostly for her unique origami projects within the community and her incredible installations. Her time is dedicated to teaching adults and children origami which is how I first met Midori many years ago in a paper crane origami workshop. A highly respected teacher, she has been invited to run origami workshops and projects in many places including for the Japanese Embassy. In 2022, she was one of 197 people in the world to be awarded the Japanese Foreign Minister’s Commendation for her contribution towards origami in Sydney and Australia-Japan cultural exchange. She was also awarded by the Consulate General of Japan, Sydney in 2016. Although Midori has made hundreds of thousands of paper cranes I wanted to feature her with just one crane crafted with deep care and respect emerging from the protective palms of the creator awaiting release into the world to symbolise hope and peace.

Exhibition is cancelled

Exhibition has cancelled due to Covid outbreak

New Moon & Reborn

I am one of the artists who were excited to do the exhibition tomorrow, however, we are disappointed as it has been cancelled due to the Covid outbreak in our area.

Every work has been completed. I prepared some information sheets, price tags and cards… I was ready!
Now a little sadness creeping into my mind. I can’t show and sell my latest works at the exhibition.

Let’s hope that we will celebrate it with the families and friends together, we only have 7 days to Christmas…

Fundraising for WIRES

Regeneration after the bushfires

Regenetaion 1-3
I am participating in the local art project and created 3 artworks.
The project has two keynotes. It is a fundraising project for WIRES. We had very bad bushfire season last time so we’d like to donate all the money raised from the project. Each panel will be sold for $20 each.
The panels have already the outline of the leaf on it and the artists have to use the shape.
So here it is. I’d like to tell you how I approach this project to create my work.
First of all, I thought about the theme, bushfires. I painted the burnt leaves in black with holes. Then I drew the red strings.  I like the story of the red string and I often paint them on my work. It is known as a romantic story but I also believe we are all connected.
I added some new green leaves on the red strings and I decided the titles, “Regeneration”
Regeneration 1,2 & 3
25.5×25.5cm each
Acrylic on cotton panels
$20 each
All money raised will be donated to WIRES.
