Farewell Mr Kiya

Sayonara Mr Kiya

FarewellMrKiya
Mr Masahiko Kiya has been an amazing Consul-General of Japan, Sydney.
He led, pushed and encouraged us to the success of Japanaroo 2022!
Mr Yamagami (Canberra’s Embassy of Japan) called him, “Mr Japanaroo”
Some of the Japanaroo staff and Japan Expo volunteers had Mr Kiya’s farewell party at James Squire’s Brewhouse in Circular Quey.
We can see the Harbour Bridge and the Opera House from there.
It has been a wonderful experience for involving in the Japanaroo events for 2 years.
We will miss you and wish you great success in the next city.

Japanese Foreign Minister’s Award

Big thanks to Consul-General Kiya

Japanese Foreign Minister's Award
I received the 2022 Japanese Foreign Minister’s Award.
I am one of 197 individuals to receive the award from all over the world and only one from Sydney.
It is for my long-time contribution to the promotion of origami art and Japan-Australia cultural exchange. I was very thrilled to be acknowledged and appreciated by the Japanese Government.

Consul-General of Japan attended my workshop

What an honour!

ConsulGeneralMrMrsKiya
Another huge successful workshop! My origami Workshop for Adults class was full 2 weeks before the workshop!
Even Mr Kiya, the consul-General of Japan, Sydney had attended with his wife.
We made two different boxes and many twist roses.

Thank you very much for all the participants.

I also received some wonderful reviews about the workshop.
Here is one of them:
Midori is a lovely, patient, knowledgeable teacher who always has her students making amazing things and loving what they have made. Midori is a very experienced and talented origami practitioner who also inspires students with new levels of origami items they can aspire to making. She supplies great materials and notes and you learn more about what you can use to make origami in each class.
Thank you, Anne. You are awesome!
Big thanks to Jun-san & Hitomi-san, the Kintsugi Australia for letting me use the space.

Origami Rubik’s Cube

Free origami workshop at Japan Expo on Sat 3 September!!

Do you know origami? Have you folded origami before?
Come and join the free origami workshop at Japan Expo on Saturday 3rd September!
Origami isn’t only for making flowers and animals. You can make a unique origami puzzle toy. Using your own fingers and brains are a great exercise for your health. The research shows that origami helps children in developing their thinking & mathematical skills and helps adults in keeping healthy lives. They say making origami is good because when people concentrate creating origami pieces, they stop thinking about their daily worries for a while.
Do you know that Origami, the traditional Japanese craft, is used not only in art, fashion & craft but also in architecture, space science and medical science? Origami attracts scientists and engineers attention. Do you know the airbags in cars use origami designs?
The origami techniques save people’s lives! Isn’t it amazing?!
Some fun origami kits and origami accessories with the top quality Yuzen ‘washi’ paper are for sale.
Booth Number 2

Do not miss the free Sake tasting

Japan Expo at Sydney University!!

The Great Hall, Sydney University
Visited the Great Hall at Sydney University for the upcoming event, Japan Expo (as part of Japanaroo 2022)
Excited to see many wonderful portraits on the wall, but they hang the paintings too high to see well. Or I’m too short… Oh well, I came to check the space, not the exhibition. 😅
My origami table will be there 1-4pm. Everyone welcome, visit me!
Japan Expo will be on Saturday 3rd September 10am-4pm
Japanese food and Sake tasting. Tourism information. etc
Free admission, and registration required.
